Fake or Break

It's always been known that the internet is full of fakes and edited photos, but I don't think anyone's had as much fun proving it as Zilla van den Born. The 25-year-old from Amsterdam spent 5 weeks of her summer at home, editing photos of herself to fool family and friends that she had been travelling around Asia. The graphic designer wanted to do this to show how social media can be manipulated.
The photo edits are amazing, and must have taken so much time and skill.

I love this whole concept, and the photos that have come out of it. It seems to have come at such a perfect time for me, when I am thinking about my new art topic: Remix,Rehash & Edit. van den Born has put a whole new spin on this.

In fact, it even reminds me of myself five years ago when I edited a selfie to put a row of shops behind me and proclaimed 'having so much fun in Westfield'. It stopped me from feeling guilty about staying at home all weekend and not seeing daylight. Of course, my digital skills were a not quite as er... refined as they are now and someone commented 'r u actually there?' Hmm, talk about awkward. Needless to say, the photo was taken down from Facebook.

Anyway, nowadays I hope my digital work is making progress and I can take real inspiration from van den Born!

Wait around to see how it goes...

New Year, New Topic...

Since starting Sixth Form on Tuesday, things have been pretty intense. The subjects I'm doing (for now, at least) are history, french, psychology and art. The workload has definitely been a load, but I'm coping! It is all so exciting and I can't wait to really get started into my new syllabi.

Art begins with the introduction of our new unit, which is entitled 'Remix, Rehash & Edit'... Nothing sprung to mind when I first saw those three words, but slowly I began to realise that this topic was made for me. Although my school only offers fine art, I doubt there is a unit that could incorporate more digital techniques than this one. My teachers are even offering extra lessons on how to use photoshop (so we can explore the word 'Edit'), but that's something I've already taught myself the basics of. Now that I've realised how much I could get out of this - both for my portfolio but also simply as a fun way of expanding my digital horizons- I am thinking of so many ways to study these three words. I have already starting thinking about the Digital Revolution exhibition I saw at the Barbican two months ago  (http://heyhudi.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/arcades-dragons-wishes-barbican.html) and about the incredible app that is Energy Flow. I am thinking about exploring the idea of things being remixed, rehashed and edited to create other things and I would love to able to get inspiration from this piece of art which so beautifully demonstrates this.

Make sure you keep refreshing this page, to see how I develop my ideas and how I go with my A levels!
